BAN Toxics is an organization that supports environmental protection through the promotion of sound chemicals and wastes management practices. Mr. Richard Gutierrez, a public interest lawyer, founded the organization in 2006 to address improper waste management in the Philippines. Since then, the organization has worked on issues involving environmental justice in the country.  It operates on a multi-level approach involving grassroots communities and policy-makers towards the congruence of government policies with on-ground practices.

Up to now, the organization has been working to address issues in informal mining, particularly artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM). BAN Toxics’ most recent effort to aid the ASGM sector is through Compassionate Gold— a brand featuring gold extracted by small-scale miners through responsible mining practices. It is an off-shoot project by the CARING Gold Mining Project, a US Department of Labour (DOL)-funded project in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Philippine Fashion Week.  Showing of the jewelry line will be on October 2018. Updates will be posted soon!
