Philippine Fashion Week Over the Years: Setting the Stage and Building Global Partnerships
Over the decades, the Philippines has come into its own in the global fashion industry. With the country’s numerous collaborations with international companies and industry veterans, let us look back at Filipino brands and designers that have partnered with many world-renowned names and have become highlights of Philippine Fashion Week over the seasons.
Philippine Fashion Week has become a platform for brands to not only bring international partnerships to the Filipino people but to elevate Philippine artists, designs, and culture to the global stage. Human brought in Kylie Jenner and Rob Kardashian to Philippine Fashion Week runways in 2013. Leighton Meester and Mario Maurer represented Penshoppe in 2012, and in the same year, America’s Next Top Model alums Allison Harvard and Dominique Reighard walked the runways of Philippine Fashion Week for Michael Cinco and Rajo Laurel. Male supermodel David Gandy graced the stage in 2013 as the new face of SM Men’s Fashion. Many global personalities have worn Filipino brands and designs, with even legendary fashion magazine editor and Project Runway judge, Nina Garcia, coming to the Philippines to headline for JAG Origins.
It is not only veterans of the fashion industry who have come to the shores of the Philippines. Philippine Fashion Week has also welcomed international musical talents who have graced fashion show runways including notable artists such as the New York-based DJ group, The Misshapes, and American rapper, Flo Rida.
With these talents taking part of Philippine Fashion Week from all over the world, many Philippine brands and designers have become part of the international fashion community. These collaborations continue to show not only how much these people have to offer the Philippines, but also what the Philippines has to offer the world.
